Why You Should Train for an Event This Year

The year is underway, you’ve set your food and fitness goals but have you included an event to train for? Here’s a list of reasons why you should add an event goal to your list.

  • Better goals – Entering an event, whether it’s a 5km fun run or a full 42.4 km marathon sets a date in your diary to aim for.
  • More focus – Training for an event really focuses your efforts. You know exactly why you are making training a priority.
  • Effective planning – Knowing you’ll be running a half marathon or doing a triathlon in three months triggers your preparations.
  • More support – People will support and cheer for you. When you say, “I’m off for a run to train for…” they respect your efforts.
  • Social fun – Entering an event like a fun run with family, friends or workmates makes exercise a social event, which makes it even more fun.
  • Fundraiser boost – Opting to raise money for a worthy cause boosts your motivation to keep training when you may not feel like doing it for yourself.
  • Satisfaction – I remember the exhilarating feeling when I crossed the finish line in a half-marathon. What a sense of satisfaction.
  • Surprises – How do you feel when you achieve something you thought you couldn’t? You feel surprised that you did it and this feeling enhances your satisfaction.
  • In 2012, surprise yourself that you can do something you thought you couldn’t. Enter a local fun run or event as one of your goals and enjoy the results. It’s worth the effort!

Nothing Left to Give - December 2011

‘You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.’ Kahlil Gibran

At this time of year I hear so many clients and friends talking about how depleted they are, how much they are looking forward to a break and how they feel as though they have nothing left to give.
